Sunscreens are for everyone and should be used by everyone daily. They are usually based on physical filters containing zinc or titanium or both, these sit on the surface of the skin and reflect UV away from the skin. Titanium has come in for some bad press recently as light invisible physical sunscreens have been promoted to replace physical sunscreens which are visible once applied. These new creams are effective but titanium has an extremely high affinity for the lipids (fats) which make up our skin cell walls and they can escape out of the cream matrix and bind to these lipids, causing irritation in up to 10% of users. There are also chemical filters and we like these as they neutralise the UV by absorbing its energy and preventing this energy entering the skin.
